There are two different types of custody, Legal and Physical. Either one may be sole or joint.

Legal custody involves the right to make major decisions determining the children’s upbringing, including education, health care, and religious training.
Physical custody refers to the residence, daily care, and control of the children. It is NOT the same as parenting time, which refers to the specific schedule the children spend with each parent.
